Following last year, Karma Phuntsho, spiritual thinker, social activist, and one of Bhutan’s leading scholars and researchers, will once again give a lecture at our college.
His current lecture focuses on Santideva, one of the most popular authors on Mahayana philosophy and altruism in the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist world. His work, Bodhicharyavatara, or “The Way of a Bodhisattva,” is a classic that serves as an unparalleled source of inspiration. Spiritual thinker, social activist, and one of Bhutan’s leading scholars and researchers. He teaches Buddhism and Bhutanese studies in Bhutan and abroad. He completed his full monastic training and was an abbot before going to Oxford to earn a doctorate in Oriental Studies. He has worked as a researcher at Cambridge University, the CNRS (Paris), and the University of Virginia, focusing on the history, religion, culture, and development of Bhutan. He is the author of six books, including A History of Bhutan, has edited seven books, written over two hundred articles and essays, and led more than a dozen research projects.
