Student ID Administration at the Academic Office
During Office Hours

For newly enrolled students, the process of applying for a student ID is supported by the “Higher Education Student ID Application Flowchart” and the following step-by-step guide.

  1. Requesting a NEK Data Sheet
Applicants can request the NEK data sheet exclusively at a government office or document bureau, where a photo and signature sample will be recorded. To request a NEK identifier, applicants must present an official identification document (ID card/passport/driver’s license) and a proof of address (residence card). The NEK identifier on the data sheet is a 16-character code.

  2. Applying for a Student ID in Neptun
The student must initiate the application for a student ID exclusively through the Neptun study system under Administration / Student ID request.
IMPORTANT: Before submitting the application, verify that the personal and address data on the NEK data sheet from the document office match those in Neptun. If there is a discrepancy, inform the Academic Office; otherwise, the application may later be rejected.

  3. Collecting the Student ID and Validity Sticker
The completed student ID is mailed by the Education Office to the College’s address. Students will receive a Neptun message once the ID has arrived. The student ID and the validation sticker for the active semester must be collected from the Academic Office administrator.

The deadline to collect the sticker is October 31 for the autumn semester and March 31 for the spring semester.

  1. Permanent Student ID Application Initiated in Neptun
Until the permanent student ID is issued, the academic administrator provides the student with a Certificate (so-called “temporary student ID”), which entitles the holder to state-guaranteed student discounts. The condition for issuing the temporary student ID is that the permanent student ID application has been initiated in Neptun.

  2. Requesting the Certificate
After applying for the permanent student ID, the Academic Office will issue the temporary student ID—valid for 60 days—upon the student’s request during in-person office hours.

If any of the following data have changed, the already issued student ID must be returned, and a new one must be requested via the permanent student ID application process in Neptun. However, in this case, the reason for the application should be marked as “due to data change,” not “new application.”

Cases of data change:

  • change of personal name,

  • change of permanent address (if the permanent address on the valid address card differs from the one on the student ID),

  • change of study format (daytime–evening).

The educational ID number is a general identifier that uniquely identifies a person within the educational system (format: an 11-digit number starting with 7). This number is printed on both the student ID and the temporary certificate. Please note that when purchasing a student transit pass, the student’s educational ID number (the number beginning with 7) must be indicated on the pass voucher.

If a student continues their studies at a higher level of education—such as a master’s program after completing a bachelor’s—and the new program’s schedule matches the previous one (daytime or evening), there is no need to request a new student ID.

In case of loss of the student ID, a replacement fee of 3,500 HUF must be paid (based on Government Decree 362/2011 (12.30), Paragraph 40, Subsection 1).

After the completion of studies, the student ID must be returned to the Academic Office. A temporary student ID certificate will be issued to the student valid until the end of their entitlement period.
